Solar energy in the Sultanate of Oman has come a long way since policies were put in place in 2016 until now, but the pace of existing projects is slow for residential or commercial use even the economic feasibility of these projects is high in compare of past years.
In this article, we will talk about some of the technical matters that must be followed when constructing solar energy projects that were previously approved by the Electricity Regulatory Authority(AER) or the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ASPR)currently.
We will talk about the laws and regulations followed in the Sultanate of Oman to be applied by solar energy contractors and solar energy consultants, as well as the electricity distribution companies of the Nama Holding Group.
1. Point of connection -POC
The solar PV plants must be connected to the grid at an appropriate point, the access point (POC). That it the responsibility of the electricity distribution companies(DSO) to design the appropriate communication assessment process capable of hosting the solar photovoltaic power plant
While maintaining making the network safe and effective in all operating conditions. Solar energy systems tend to pump excess energy into the grid. Therefore, electricity companies must take the necessary measures to make this system hopeful for workers in the sector by providing the following necessary protection systems:
I. Interface Protection System
II. Anti-Island inverter
